I desperately need to learn more mathematics. All I find when I look up the Riemann Hypothesis is stuff that I don’t understand. I did manage to figure out what a Dirichlet character is. The next step will be to learn what a Dirichlet L-series is. It takes such a long time to learn all this stuff. I won’t be satisfied until I know enough analytic number theory to understand John Carey’s paper. I managed to get through about half a page of it. Then it went way above my head.

Yesterday, I was able to play chamber music for the first time in ages. Three of us prepared a Haydn London Trio for about half an hour and then performed it for the large number of people who were there. I really should play more chamber music since it is a lot of fun.

About Simon

Hi. I'm Simon Rubinstein-Salzedo. I'm a mathematics postdoc at Dartmouth College. I'm also a musician; I play piano and cello, and I also sometimes compose music and study musicology. I also like to play chess and write calligraphy. This blog is a catalogue of some of my thoughts. I write them down so that I understand them better. But sometimes other people find them interesting as well, so I happily share them with my small corner of the world.

I see that you are struggling with analytic number theory. For a nice introduction I would recommend Harold Davenport’s “Multiplicative Number Theory”. Good luck.
