Well, my new sleep schedule seems to have been quite successful. I’m actually getting more sleep than I was before despite waking up at 4:30.

I need to learn MusiXTeX. Finale simply doesn’t work properly for anything that’s not incredibly basic. But since I don’t know MusiXTeX yet, I had the pleasure of spending my early hours today transcribing my homework the old-fashioned way — with pen and manuscript paper. (Yes, I know that one is not supposed to go near manuscript paper with ink, but that has never stopped me before.) Of course, PCTeX probably doesn’t support MusiXTeX since it doesn’t seem to support anything else. I really need to get Y&Y very soon.

Labutin gave us the option of doing a research project rather than a final in analysis. I definitely plan to take him up on this offer. I’ll definitely need to know quite a bit of measure theory in order to write the paper, so that just might give me an excuse to stop being lazy. Those are always most warmly welcomed.

About Simon

Hi. I'm Simon Rubinstein-Salzedo. I'm a mathematics postdoc at Dartmouth College. I'm also a musician; I play piano and cello, and I also sometimes compose music and study musicology. I also like to play chess and write calligraphy. This blog is a catalogue of some of my thoughts. I write them down so that I understand them better. But sometimes other people find them interesting as well, so I happily share them with my small corner of the world.
