For the second time since my new regime started, I failed to get up early. My alarm clock went off at 4:30, and I promptly turned it off and went back to sleep. I hope that does not happen in the future. Fortunately, I woke up at 7:15, so I didn’t miss breakfast or analysis.

My housing plans for next year seem to be changing rapidly. The first plan seems to have fallen through, so I signed up for a single. But then Ajay and David (math people) were looking for more people to join them, so Jon and I tried to sign up for an apartment with them. Unfortunately, Jon is still a freshman since some of his classes haven’t been processed, so he was unable to request an apartment. We’ll have to see what we can do about that. I doubt we’ll get it anyway since seniors have priority for university-owned apartments, and none of us are seniors. Those apartments are also extremely popular, so unless Ajay can pull some strings since he’s working for the university (I think), we won’t be in those apartments.

I wonder how long it will take before the burden of eight classes will either drive me insane or make me very ill. I would promise myself that I will give myself a bit of a break next quarter, but I’ll be taking all the same classes since they’re sequenced. I’m such a masochist, but at least I know that I’ll be doing what I said I’d do: I’m here to learn mathematics (and perhaps other things), and nothing should be stopping me, so that’s just the way things are and the way things will be.

I have a class to audit at 11, so it’s about time for me to head off and wrap up this update

About Simon

Hi. I'm Simon Rubinstein-Salzedo. I'm a mathematics postdoc at Dartmouth College. I'm also a musician; I play piano and cello, and I also sometimes compose music and study musicology. I also like to play chess and write calligraphy. This blog is a catalogue of some of my thoughts. I write them down so that I understand them better. But sometimes other people find them interesting as well, so I happily share them with my small corner of the world.
