Aren’t Flight Cancellations Wonderful?

Well, I’m supposed to be in San Francisco as of about 6 minutes ago (from now; when I finish writing, it will be much later). That didn’t happen. It’s foggy, so the planes can’t take off. What sort of an excuse is that? Earlier in the day, I couldn’t see 100 feet in front of me. Now I can see halfway across campus from my dorm (well, not really, but I can see further than I could this afternoon when flights weren’t being cancelled). And I don’t have bright lights to help me out except for streetlamps. They tried to reroute me through Los Angeles so that I would arrive at 11:30 (way past my bedtime) in San Francisco, but that flight was cancelled too. Then they were going to try to bus us over to Los AngelesWhen I switched my flight and found that it wouldn’t leave for over half a day, I decided to take a taxi back to my dorm and spend the night in a comfortable bed (although staying up all night reading analytic number theory sounded somewhat appealing as well since I wouldn’t be able to sleep in an airport for fear of my stuff getting stolen).

I tried to convince Crandall that it is possible to cover a torus with three surface patches today since I didn’t feel like memorizing the four surface patches in the book. That meant I had to derive it on the test, but to my surprise, I was able to do it. (Actually, I wasn’t that surprised, but I thought it would be harder.)

On Monday I got new music for myself to play. I got the Tchaikowsky Variations on a Rococo Theme. Those look moderately playable but hard. I also got all 19 Boccherini sonatas. I think those are all way above my level. I also got Beethoven’s 1st Piano Concerto, which is not very well-known for some reason, although it is a wonderful piece.

I won’t be enforcing my 9:30 bedtime today.
